Michel Claessens holds a PhD from Brussels’ University and brings decades of expertise in science communication and policy. He served as Deputy Head of the Communication Unit in the Research Directorate-General at the European Commission, where he played a pivotal role in shaping research communication strategies.
In 2011, Michel became Head of Communication and External Relations at the ITER Organization in France. Currently, he serves as an advisor to the ITER Director-General and the WISC (Science Culture) project. A prolific author, Michel has published 17 books—including ITER, The Giant Fusion Reactor (Springer, 2023)—14 research papers, and over 250 popular science articles.
